Trader reply: "The customer had been towed into our garage by the breakdown company with a problem with the starter motor; it was a Friday and we had the customer in the next day due to it arriving late. We informed the customer that the vehicle had starter motor issues and would need replacing. We provided the quotation to the customer and they advised us to repair the vehicle as it has labour and parts cover from the breakdown company. We advised the customer that if the breakdown company do not cover the parts, then they would be held liable for the costs. He approved us to carry out the work. We advised him that the breakdown department is closed on a Saturday and I will be only able to confirm this on Monday, on that Saturday he called more than 4 times asking if his van is ready as he needed it for work. We kindly explained to him that the job is taking longer than expected and he will need to be patient, so that day we were not able to complete the car and informed him that his vehicle will be ready on Monday. On Monday we called the breakdown company to recover the costs for the work on the vehicle – they refused the claim and referred the matter back to the client. We then informed the client and they were not happy, and he came to the garage. He was on the phone to the breakdown company for roughly 30 minutes, but they did not cover his costs. Upon this he said I am not paying the amount as it costs too much. The costs were over £300, he kept saying I could have got that starter motor changed for £50. He was mentioning that he only came here because he thought the breakdown company would cover him. He then started to request us to remove the starter motor to take the car away but a manger was not happy with that decision, so instead out of goodwill we applied discount to his balance. We advised him that if the car stays here over night without balance being paid, we will then start applying storage fee, because our garage is in the middle of town centre. We have a lot of work and the vehicle cannot be parked on the road as they will get parking fines within a matter of minutes. We have bought in this policy in as a few incidents have occurred.
