Springtime Car Care Tips

Springtime Car Care Tips

Dare we say it? Spring may finally have sprung! After the wild temperature changes in the UK over the last couple of months, a little bit of sunshine is very welcome. However, slightly warmer temperatures can come with their own issues. Check out our top car maintenance tips for spring.

Check Your Tyre Pressure

During winter, it is usually necessary to top up your tyres. However, as temperatures rise, so could your tyre pressure. If your tyre pressure is too high, reduce it accordingly; high pressure reduces your traction on the road, which could cause your vehicle to skid on slippery, wet roads during April showers.

Windscreen Wipers

The chances are that your windscreen wipers have had a lot of use over the last six months! Windscreen wipers are just as important in the warmer months, so take a look at your wipers. If you can see any damage or wear, such as perished rubber, remove the damaged blade and take it to the shop to make sure you get the right replacements.

A Spring Clean

Grit, salt and dirt can corrode your paintwork if left too long. Treat your car to a good wash, from top to bottom, finishing with a layer of excellent quality wax to help protect your vehicle until autumn.

Test Your Brakes

It is likely that your brakes have had to contend with a lot over the autumn and winter: fluctuating temperatures, rain, sleet and snow. Regardless of when your next service and MOT test are due, drop into your local garage to get your brakes tested.

Check Your Battery

Cooler temperatures have an impact on the chemical processes that take part in your battery, which can cause a drop in its performance. Test the power on your battery using a battery tester – or take it to a trusted mechanic to test for you. If the battery is low on power and less than five years old, get it charged; if the battery is over 5 years old, it will need to be replaced.

We all rely on our vehicles and often take them for granted but the fact is, poor vehicle maintenance could cost lives. Maintaining your car doesn’t have to be expensive and it could even save you money in the long-term. What’s more, by finding a local mechanic on Trust A Garage’s directory, you know that you are choosing a mechanic you can trust.
