UK warranty provider offers extended cover for electric vehicles

UK warranty provider offers extended cover for electric vehicles

It is now possible to pay for an extended warranty for your electric car in the UK after its manufacturer warranty has expired, as a warranty provider has announced it now offers cover - for most of the car.

However, the cover doesn't include the battery - the one component most people considering, or who already own, an electric car are likely to be most concerned about due to the cost of replacement.

There are around 40,000 electric vehicles on the roads of the UK, many which are coming to the end of their manufacturer warranty.

The extended warranty for electric vehicles from Warrantywise includes cover for the electric motor and starts at £55 per month for cars which are less than four years old and which have covered fewer than 40,000 miles. Should the battery need repair or replacement the owner would still be liable.

Considering a replacement battery for the Nissan Leaf, the UK's best selling electric car, would be £4,920 (or £3,920 if returning the old battery) it is clear why owners would love this part to be covered - something extended warranty providers are unlikely to offer.
